Recycling at Harvard

Recycling & Solid Waste Removal

Our University-wide recycling program recovers more recyclables than any other Ivy League school.  Last year, Harvard recovered more than 8,395 tons of recyclables and compostables for a recovery rate of 52%!

SingleStream recycling, which eliminates the need to separate different types of recyclables (i.e. plastics, paper, aluminum), was recently introduced here at Harvard.  Studies have shown people are much more likely to recycle when they don't have to separate items.

Hundreds of University vehicles are washed using rainwater.  Rainfall is captured in a 1,200 gallon tank, saving nearly 25,000 gallons of water annually.
