E&U saves energy the "Cool" Way
Engineering & Utilities is helping the University save energy by taking advantage of the frigid winter air. During construction of the new chilled water plant at the Northwest Laboratory building, E&U installed Free Cooling Heat Exchangers which use the cold outside air instead of chillers to produce chilled water. When operating in the “free cooling” mode the energy used by the plant to make chilled water is reduced. This reduces the greenhouse gas intensity of the chilled water and lowers the greenhouse gas footprint of buildings that use the chilled water supplied by our system.
