Emergency Management
The 24 x 7 University Operations Center plays a critical role in emergency communications for campus emergencies. The Operations Center has taken many proactive steps to build the plans, procedures, infrastructure and capacity needed for effective and redundant emergency communications systems.
Harvard University Emergency Notification System
Most notably, the Operations Center manages and maintains the Harvard University Emergency Notification System (HUENS). The HUENS is high speed notification system utilized to activate and notify University Responders, Emergency Management Teams and other University personnel rapidly in the event of an emergency. It has the capability of automatically notifying a group of people simultaneously on their text devices, pagers, cell phones, work phones, home phones and email and can deliver over 100 notifications in 5 minutes. Messages can be pre-recorded with standard messages or instructions or customized depending on the scenario. This has greatly improved the University’s ability to disseminate information quickly during an emergency.

Web EOC
The Operations Center also maintains the University-wide Web EOC program. This system can enable University leadership and emergency management to electronically share information real-time during a significant or extended emergency to help manage information and resources needed during an incident.

Emergency Planning Resources
Emergency planning resources are also available. These resources aid schools and departments with developing Emergency Management Plans and Procedures and provide a standardization of information, practice and terminology.
