EH&S provides a broad range of services to the University to promote the protection of our customers. We view our customers as not only the students, faculty and administrative staff of the University, but also as the community and environment in which we live. Providing these services is a challenging responsibility, and requires that we operate as a true cross-functional team to find creative ways to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and University policies in the most efficient manner possible.

Harvard's Environmental and Safety Management Policy was created a number of years ago to integrate the responsibilities of the EH&S Department and the University community in the most effective manner possible.

We are proud of this Home Page because it enables us to showcase the diversity of expertise and talent that we have in the EH&S Department, and it reflects the range of services that we provide to the University. On these pages you will find factsheets on EH&S issues, on-line training for Harvard personnel, classroom training schedules, EH&S manuals, safety alerts and other information. It is the dedication of our entire Department - support staff, technicians, safety officers, industrial hygienists, biosafety officers, radiation protection personnel, safety specialists, environmental engineers, food sanitation specialists and pest control personnel - that has given rise to this Web-based effort. We view the development and maintenance of this Home Page as a key tool for communicating with our customers, and to help them identify, evaluate and manage the impacts of their operations. EH&S is fortunate to have a knowledgeable and committed group of professionals who work closely with the Harvard community as a part of University Operations Services.

Though the Harvard EH&S Department was created many years ago (in 1958!!) to address radiation, worker safety and other concerns at the University, we are learning every day.
