Over the past several years, the Landscape Services team in the Facilities Maintenance Operations group (FMO) has been transitioning its maintenance programs from conventional to fully organic methods. This page has been developed to help share that experience.
FMO Landscape Services recently expanded its fully organic maintenance program to include the creation of high quality mulch, used to support shrubs and planting beds. The initial program will produce more than 100 tons of mulch, enough to satisfy the entire Harvard Yard landscape. All of the mulch is created from leaves and other landscape waste collected throughout the University. Recycling this organic material returns beneficial nutrients to plants and soils while eliminating disposal costs.
