Paper Products
Paper products should be Green Seal certified (Green Seal Standard for Tissue Paper, GS-1 and Green Seal Standard for Paper Towels and Paper Napkins, GS-9). Product characteristics such as forestry practices and appropriate certifications, whitening and/or bleaching processes, recycled content (100%), post-consumer waste recycled content (up to 49% for tissue and 82% for hand towels), post-industrial and pre-consumer waste recycled content, generated packaging waste and controlled-use dispensing efficiency should be considered.
The selected product should meet EPA, USGBC, SFI, FSC and Green Seal guidelines, and should be Process Chorine Free (PCF).
The installation of hand dryers are recommended if they can be installed without companion hand towel dispensers. Several high-efficiency units are available that dry hands quickly and effectively.
Multi-fold and C-fold towels are not recommended, as dispensing can be wasteful, and it is difficult to control use. If these products are required, select a Green Seal Certified product.
Select toilet tissue dispensers that promote the use of all toilet tissue so that remainders or stub rolls are not discarded. Select hand towel dispensers that regulate the amount dispensed with each pull. Battery-powered dispensers are not recommended because of the battery waste (regulated Universal Waste) that is generated.
