Hand and Portable Power Tools

All employees shall comply with 29 CFR 1910 Subpart P when using hand and power tools at Harvard University. Prior to allowing an employee to use a tool, building managers/ supervisors shall ensure that all employees have received proper and adequate training. All Harvard employees must:

• Keep all tools in good condition with regular maintenance.
• Use the proper tool for the job.
• Examine each tool for damage before use and do not use damaged tools.
• Operate tools according to the manufacturers’ instructions.
• Proper use of the correct personal protective equipment recommended by the tool manufacturer.
