NIH rDNA Guidelines
The Harvard Committee on Microbiological Safety (COMS) oversees the use of rDNA at Harvard per the NIH requirement that all institutions receiving NIH funding for rDNA establish an institutional biosafety committee (IBC) to provide proper oversight.

In order to comply with the NIH rDNA Guidelines, COMS has required that researchers using rDNA complete the NIH rDNA Guidelines Training before their biological research registrations will be renewed. More>>
In addition to ensuring that IBC members, PIs, and laboratory staff are trained in the NIH rDNA Guidelines, COMS is also mandated to review and approve rDNA research, determine the need for personnel health surveillance, and set biosafety containment levels as required by the Guidelines for experiments covered under Section III-D-4-b.
