AERIAL LIFTS

Certain maintenance, construction, and repair activities are performed while working in elevated positions. Non-mechanical methods such as ladders and scaffolds are used to perform some of these activities, but for many applications a mobile elevated work platform may be used. Mobile elevated work platforms provide a stable, portable working surface that is superior to the limitations of a ladder and the time-consuming assembly of a scaffold system.

This standard contains the safety requirements for mobile elevated work platforms such as scissor lifts, self propelled elevating work platforms, manually-propelled elevating aerial lifts, extendable and articulating boom-supported elevating work platforms, vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating aerial devices, and work platforms.
