When working with radioactive material, there are things you should do to minimize your exposure and ensure safety. These items range from general safety measures that we all must follow, to more specific issues that relate to things like the procedure or radionuclide that is being used.
In the following sections contain general guides appropriate to the use of radioactive material such as how to prepare your work area, perform a contamination survey, and employ useful tips that will increase your efficiency and provide ample safety. There are specific guides for the common radionuclides that provide summaries including physical and chemical properties, protective equipment, shielding, work practices, and clean-up procedures.
