Pest Control Policy at Harvard University

As a recognized leader in innovative pest control for academic institutions, the Pest Control Office is committed to providing guidance on safe and effective pest control as a means of enhancing living and working conditions for all members of the Harvard community. Our goals are to respond in a timely way to all requests for assistance, to inform and educate others on issues of environmentally sensitive pest control, and to safeguard Harvard property.

Harvard's pest control contractors are required by EH&S to employ a particular approach to the task of keeping the University pest-free. That approach is called Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM means utilizing natural and physical controls in any given pest situation, and choosing chemicals only after all other methods have been tried. Emphasis is placed on finding the least toxic method at every stage of problem solving.

What does this mean to you? Keeping unnecessary chemicals out of the environment is good for everyone.
