Back Safety: Preserve the Curve

There are three natural curves of the back: the cervical curve, thoracic curve and the lumbar curve. These curves form and S shape. When the natural curves are appropriately aligned, your ears, shoulders and hips are all in a straight line. This is good sitting posture because it allows your back to balance your weight proportionately. Slouching throws your weight off balance and thus, can contribute to a tired, stiff back, or even injury.
