Stormwater is any precipitation that includes rain and snow melt that comes in contact with the ground surface and drains to a nearby water body. The water is collected on surfaces, including, roof tops, parking lots or the ground. Many times rain goes directly to a storm drain that discharges to a local pond or river. During the drainage process water comes in contact with pollutants such as oil and grease, pesticides, sediments, and other wastes.
The Harvard University stormwater program has been developed to manage the runoff to reduce or eliminate potential for pollution to be discharged.
