At Harvard University there are tanks, both above and underground, that are used to store a variety of materials including, diesel fuel, heating oil and other fuels. There are many regulations governing the use of storage tanks. These include requirements to obtain permits for installation, modification and removal. There are also many requirements that designate required inspections and maintenance of storage tanks. The proper management of tanks is important to ensure that spills and leaks are prevented.
