To access some parts of the Fall Protection Program, you must be on a Harvard Computer.
Falls from elevations are one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Across the university there are countless tasks that require work above ground level. Painting, roofing, maintenance of building mechanical systems, window and building façade cleaning, and a variety of other jobs are done at elevations. Just as there are many jobs to be done there are a number of different work environments that make it impossible to employ a single strategy for protecting workers from falls. Pitched roofs, flat roofs, buildings with parapets, loading docks, etc. all require a specific set of procedures and sometimes specialized equipment to safeguard workers.
The University's Fall Protection Program contains procedures, definitions and equipment descriptions that guide managers toward a comprehensive strategy. If you are a manager or an employee that has questions about a fall protection process for a particular location or task, read through the Program and then contact EH&S for specific guidance.
